METALLICA Frontman Comments On 'Taliban-Like Beard' Rumor

Finland's MTV3 conducted an interview with METALLICA frontman James Hetfield in Helsinki on Sunday, July 15. Watch the interview in two parts: Part#1, Part#2.

During the chat, Hetfield was asked about the report that he was detained by U.K. airport security earlier in the month on his way to performing in London for Live Earth.

Britain's The Times claimed that Hetfield was held and questioned due to what friends called his "Taliban-like beard." According to the paper, the METALLICA singer was briefly questioned before "red-faced" officials realized he was a rock star.

Speaking to MTV3, Hetfield said of his beard, "There's a rumor going around that I was stopped at an airport for having this. They thought I was — it's just a made-up rumor — that I was some terrorist or something. I haven't seen many terrorists with tattoos, so…"
